NU Shows Defensive Grit in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Eagles suffered a final minute, one-point defeat on the road, falling 50-49 to the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in their first matchup of the weekend. Despite a second-half comeback, the Eagles were unable to overcome an early deficit.

The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm in the opening half, connecting on just 29.2% of their field goals and trailing 24-17 at the half. However, the team showed resilience after the break, nearly doubling their offensive output with a 32-point second half.

Northwest outscored Alaska Anchorage 32-26 in the final 20 minutes and managed to score 29 points off the Seawolves' turnovers throughout the game, illustrating their defensive pressure.

Logan Stempniak again led the charge for Northwest, pacing the team with 12 points on an efficient 5-of-10 shooting from the field. Stempniak also grabbed four rebounds and contributed a three-pointer. Andrew Iyamah tallied 10 points and five rebounds.

"One of the most special defensive efforts I have witnessed," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Our guys gave everything on that end. We were hurt by 16 offensive rebounds and 19 turnovers but had a chance to win with the effort our guys gave on the defensive side of the ball. I am very proud of that effort. Need to clean up the rebounding and turnovers and make our free throws and lay-ins now."

Northwest will look to take home a victory tomorrow as they take on the Seawolves again tomorrow afternoon.
