Eagles Start California Trip with a Win

VALLEJO, Calif. – Northwest earned a strong road victory Saturday night, defeating Cal Maritime 66–49 in non-conference action inside PEAC Main Gym.

Cal Maritime was led by Aysia Santos, who finished with a game-high 18 points, and Tamana Sharifi, who posted 10 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Northwest countered with a balanced scoring effort of its own. Jersey McGehee paced the Eagles with 12 points and six rebounds, while Ella Whitaker added 10 points and four boards to help fuel the offense.

Trailing by four after the first quarter, Northwest matched Cal Maritime's 18-point output in the second period to keep the margin close at halftime. The Eagles then delivered the decisive blow in the third, holding Cal Maritime to just five points in the frame. That defensive stand gave Northwest full control, and the Eagles maintained their advantage the rest of the way to seal the win.

Northwest's strong second-half performance propelled the team to a confident 66–49 victory.

Coach Edens had this to say, "[It] turned into a defensive game there in the second half, but a lot of balance scoring for the Eagles helped them pull away with their biggest win of the season. Eleven threes were made on the night. A big night also on the glass really helped the Eagles push it out to 25 points ahead there in the fourth quarter before it slimmed down to the final margin. Looking forward to Pacific Union tomorrow."

The Eagles head to Pacific Union tomorrow to face them at 1:00 PM.
