CALDWELL, Idaho - The Eagles kicked off the season with their first counting game of the year against Park University Gilbert (AZ) at the College of Idaho Taco Bell Shootout. Despite a close contest, Northwest was able to break away and take the victory, 80-68.
The Eagles got out to a strong start with two three-pointers from
Trent Williams. As the teams settled into the game, it became a back-and-forth contest throughout the first half with neither team creating a large lead for themselves. Northwest found themselves down by 5 going into the second half.
Out of the break, Northwest was able to keep pace with Park and slowly chip away at their lead. As the halfway point of the second half neared, the Eagles grabbed a two point lead. While Park stayed right on their tail, Northwest was able to maintain the lead and start to pull away in the last five minutes of the game.
"Really proud of the guys today," said NU Head Coach
Rick Skeen. "Lots of big contributions from many different guys. Truly a team win."
Christian Watkins led the Eagles with 25 points on the night.
Trent Williams tallied 14 and
Logan Stempniak was right behind him with 12 points.
Andrew Iyamah and
Ethan Martin also hit double digits with 10 points each.
The Eagles will take on Rocky Mountain College tomorrow at 4:30 PM PST.
