Eagles Fall to Southern Oregon in CCC Quarterfinals

MEDFORD, Ore. — Making their 14th straight postseason appearance, the Northwest University women's soccer team entered the playoffs as the No. 7 seed and faced No. 2 seed Southern Oregon on the road.

The Raiders struck early, taking a 1–0 lead in the 6th minute on a goal from Abby McKean. Just one minute later, McKean found the back of the net again to extend the lead to 2–0. Southern Oregon carried that advantage into halftime, controlling much of the first 45 minutes.

The Eagles came out strong in the second half, battling to get back into the game. In the 66th minute, Sara Becerra scored to cut the deficit to 2–1 and give Northwest new life. However, in the 85th minute, a Raiders player was taken down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Kaylah Bresee converted from the spot in the 86th minute to seal the 3–1 win for Southern Oregon.

Northwest was outshot 24–9, including 12–5 in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Katie Snow performed well under pressure, recording nine saves on 12 shots faced.

Coach VanAssche commented, "Very proud of how hard this team worked, despite an early exit from the tournament. We as a team fought hard every step of the way, overcoming a lot of different obstacles! Gracie and Kennedy are leaving an incredible impact on this program as seniors, and we're very proud of all that they did and even more who they are! We now have high goals for next season and are looking forward to working hard to accomplish them."

The Eagles conclude their season with an overall record of 9–7–3.
