Eagles Give Tough Effort Despite Loss

Kirkland, WA - The Northwest women's basketball team delivered a valiant effort against the number four ranked Southern Oregon, but ultimately fell short 79-55.

The Eagles came home with an unfortunate meet-up against the third place LC State on Saturday where they only scored one point in the second quarter. Sadly, it wasn't going to get any easier. The Raiders marched into Kristi Brodin undefeated but came off a close bout with the College of Idaho in a narrow 58-51 win.

The Eagles started the game strong, keeping the Raiders at bay; even tying with the conference leaders five minutes into the first, However the Raiders turned up the heat and remained clinical. Shooting for half of their shots and hitting 19 on the quarter. While the Eagles shot a respectable 44.4% and a strong 83.3% on the free throw line in the second, the Raiders proved their might by shooting 58.3%, widening the lead 49-37.

In the third quarter, the Eagles' defense stepped up and minimized the Raiders' consistent attack. The Raiders only shot for 37.5% and missed all their five attempted three-pointers. This allowed for the Eagles' offense to keep the game close by shooting for 45.5% and going 40% beyond the free throw line. But the Raiders rebounded to form and kicked on the gas in the fourth, shooting an impressive 68.8% and converting both of their three point shots. The Eagles simply could not keep up with the envy of the nation.

Kimberly Carrada Sanchez had a solid night, putting up 17 points and Jersey McGehee followed up with 13 points on the night.
