Eagles Lose in Final Game of the Season

CALDWELL, ID - The Northwest men's basketball team close out the season in defeat against the College of Idaho 92-66.

The Eagles fought well against Eastern Oregon last night, but ultimately lost steam towards the end of the second half. The Eagles then had to travel to Elgin Baylor Arena to face the best team in the conference and 12 ranked Yotes, who came into this game on a 15 game win streak with their latest coming against the Geoducks.

The Eagles did just enough to keep the game close during the first 12 minutes of the first half, not allowing the Yotes lead by more than 10 points. But as the second half transpired, the Eagles lost control and the Yotes took the game by the teeth, securing their dominance on the conference.

The final score didn't tell the whole story as both defenses showed up. The Eagles did well in limiting the buckets the Yotes converted, especially from the three-point line as the Yotes shot for 34.6%. The Yotes shut down the Eagles attack as the away squad shot for 37.3% and only mustered 28% from beyond the three-point line. It simply was not enough to beat the best team in the conference.

Nash Wobrock led the team with 20 points on the night while Caleb Whalen finished the game with 16. Wobrock finished with the most points on the team with 315 points and averaged 15 points per game.

"Tremendous effort from our guys," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "They stuck together and played the game the right way. Our season had a lot of hurdles and we lost eleven games by single digits but these guys stuck together and stayed together to the end. I couldn't be more proud. Thanks to a special group of seniors. Love them all!"
