FOREST GROVE, ORE. - The Northwest University women's soccer team traveled to Portland and left Pacific University losing 1-0.
The Eagles found success in their season opener at the University of Puget Sound, while the Boxers are still in their exhibition stages of the season.
Megan Hurley, Ella Baker, and Daniela Mesplie all contributed shots in the first half but could not connect. Boxer forward Mirella Garcia scored the game winner in the 28th minute.
In the starting few minutes of the second half, Talia Hurst sent a ball straight off the woodwork and rallied around that to eventually find the back of the net. However, the goal was called offside. Sara Becerra and Kennedy Leach both had shot attempts in the dying minutes of the game but did not seal a goal. Katie Snow made two total saves on the day.
"Today was a tough game in a lot of ways," said Head Coach April VanAssche. "The best part of the game was us working hard for 90 minutes with a ton of effort and opportunities. We just couldn't figure out how to finish the ball today in the back of the net. It was a tough loss, but one that we will learn a few lessons from and be more prepared for the next game!"
The Eagles return home for the first time this season on Thursday, August 28, against Central Washington University at 4:00 PM.
