Eagles Swept for First Loss of the Season

LA GRANDE, ORE. - The Northwest University volleyball team got swept by Eastern Oregon, showcasing their depth and firepower in the Eagles first Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

The Eagles entered this game with a 7-0 record as they faced their most challenging opponent yet in the No. 1 nationally ranked Mountaineers, who have won all but one of their games in a sweep.

The opener began back-and-forth at 2–2, but the Mountaineers quickly seized momentum. They jumped out to a dominating 10-point streak to go up 22-11. The Eagles only push came late with a small 3-0 spurt, but the home squad quickly ended it, winning 25-15.

The second set was steadier but still highlighted by an early Mountaineers lead. The Eagles twice battled back with mini-streaks throughout, including a 3-point run to tie it up, but the Mountaineers' serving pressure closed the door, sealing the 25-19 win.

The third set saw the Mountaineers at their most explosive. They jumped with a 6-point run to go up 12-4. And while the Eagles managed a five-point run of their own to trail 14-10, the Mountaineers shortly after finished the game with a 9-1 run to win the third set 25–12, and completed the sweep.

"Eastern Oregon was the better team in every phase and their performance reflects the standards of the #1 team in the country," said Head Coach Steven Bain. "Our ladies realize that and are committed to learning from the experience so that we can continue to grow and improve as a team."

The Eagles will travel to Salem, Oregon next weekend to play Corban on Friday, September 12th.
