Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hurley’s Goal Sends Eagles to Senior Night Victory

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Northwest University women's soccer celebrated its nine seniors with a 1-0 victory over Corban University on Saturday, closing its home schedule with a shutout in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Megan Hurley scored the game winner in the 50th minute off an assist from Kimberly Yarnell. The Eagles controlled much of the action, finishing with a 15-3 advantage in shots and limiting the Warriors to one shot on goal.

Northwest generated several chances in the opening half, with Yarnell, Hurley, Talia Hurst, and Lily McMullen each testing Corban goalkeeper Jordyn Labajo. The Eagles also earned five first-half corner kicks but entered the break scoreless. Ali Tiechner stopped Corban's Kelli Huskic in the ninth minute for her only save of the match.

The breakthrough came less than five minutes into the second half when Hurley finished off Yarnell's assist at 49:48 to give Northwest the lead. Hurley put another attempt on target in the 53rd minute as the Eagles continued to apply pressure.

NU nearly added to its advantage when Jersey Walker's header struck the post in the 62nd minute. Neveah Howerton and Hurley forced additional saves before Kambree Degon hit the crossbar in the 85th minute. At the other end, Northwest held Corban to two off-target shots after halftime to preserve the shutout.

"Very special day for us as we got to honor our nine amazing seniors!" said Head Coach April VanAssche. "Very proud of how my team handled an emotional day with grit and determination to get us another win! Lots of teamwork displayed perfectly on senior day! Cannot wait to keep the season going."

Hurley led Northwest with four shots, all on goal, while Howerton put both of her attempts on target. Hurst and Yarnell added two shots apiece. The Eagles finished with nine shots on goal and seven corner kicks, while Labajo recorded eight saves for Corban.

Northwest travels to College Place, Wash., on Friday, Oct. 16, to face Walla Walla University in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
