Klamath Falls, Ore. — Northwest University volleyball opened Saturday night's Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup with Oregon Tech by taking the first set, but the Owls responded with three straight set victories to hand the Eagles a 3-1 (25-20, 11-25, 22-25, 17-25) setback at Danny Miles Court.
Northwest came out with strong offensive production in the opening set, recording 13 kills on 42 attacks while hitting .167 as a team. The Eagles built an early 4-2 lead before Oregon Tech answered to even the score at 4-4. NU regained control and eventually built a 16-12 advantage before the Owls rallied to tie the set at 16-16.
The Eagles responded with a 7-1 run to move ahead 20-17. Haylee Koetje helped maintain the momentum with a kill and a service ace, while Jaelyn Moeva and Chloe Kennedy also contributed kills during the late-set push. Northwest reached set point at 24-20 before Koetje finished the frame with a kill from Katelyn Bogetti to give NU the opening-set victory.
Oregon Tech answered with its strongest offensive set of the night in the second frame, recording 21 kills on 42 attacks while hitting .405. The Eagles were held to three kills and a .000 hitting percentage as the Owls pulled away for a 25-11 victory to even the match.
Northwest opened the third set with a 4-2 lead and later extended its advantage to 14-8. Oregon Tech responded with a 10-2 run to take an 18-16 lead. NU battled back to tie the set at 18-18 and remained within striking distance late, but the Owls scored the final two points to take the frame, 25-22, and move ahead 2-1.
Oregon Tech carried its momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 5-2 lead before building a 17-9 advantage. Northwest continued to battle and cut the deficit to 23-17 late, but the Owls closed out the match with the final two points to take the fourth set, 25-17.
Moeva led the Northwest attack with eight kills on 34 attacks while hitting .176, adding one solo block and two block assists. Koetje also recorded eight kills and added 10 digs, two service aces, and one block assist. Teagan Schroeder contributed seven kills and four block assists.
Kennedy finished with five kills, seven digs, and four block assists, while Trinity Godina added four kills, eight digs, and five block assists. Bogetti directed the NU offense with 28 assists and contributed three kills, 16 digs, one service ace, and two block assists.
Defensively, Sydney Faber recorded 14 digs, while Northwest finished with 63 total digs. At the net, the Eagles recorded one solo block and 18 block assists, led by Godina's five block assists. Kennedy and Schroeder each added four.
Oregon Tech was led by Kaliko Schilling, who recorded 14 kills while hitting .300. L. Joseph-Rodrigues added 12 kills, while Alexa Gugliotta finished with nine. Taryn Ramsay directed the Owls' offense with 52 assists and added six kills.
Oregon Tech finished the match with 63 kills, 63 assists, 92 digs, and 15 block assists while hitting .220 as a team. Northwest recorded 36 kills, 32 assists, four service aces, 63 digs, one solo block, and 18 block assists while hitting .115.
With the result, Northwest moves to 6-13 overall and 2-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Oregon Tech improves to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in CCC action.
