Northwest Athletics Weekly Preview: Basketball Builds Momentum, Track Sets Records

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University Athletics enters the week with strong momentum following a successful weekend across multiple programs.

The Eagle women's basketball team split its contests, finishing 1-1 on the weekend. On the men's side, Northwest completed a 2-0 sweep, highlighted by a signature win over No. 22 Lewis-Clark State College to clinch a spot in the upcoming CCC Post Season Tournament. The victory secured Northwest's postseason spot and marked one of the team's biggest results of the season.

Senior Andrew Iyamah was recognized for his impact on the defensive end, earning CCC Defensive Player of the Week honors after anchoring Northwest's efforts throughout the weekend.

On the track, the Eagles competed at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational with several record-setting performances. Jenisha Green broke the school record in the weight throw with a mark of 13.33 meters, surpassing the previous record by 1.5 meters. Freshman Noah Ushikubo made an immediate impact in his first collegiate 60-meter race, running 7.15 to match the school record in the event.

Rachel Elliott added to the strong showing by qualifying for nationals in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.08, securing her place among the conference's top middle-distance runners.

This Week in Northwest Athletics: 

Women's and men's basketball travels to The Evergreen State College on Tuesday, February 17, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. for the women.  The men will follow at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, February 21, both teams head to Warner Pacific University. The women are set to tipoff at 3 p.m., with the men to follow at 5 p.m.

Northwest looks to carry its recent momentum into the final stretch of conference play as postseason positioning continues to take shape.
