KIRKLAND, Wash. — Northwest University men's soccer opened the 2026 season Saturday afternoon, battling George Fox University to a 0-0 draw at home.
The Eagles and Bruins played a physical, defensive match, with both teams unable to find the back of the net through 90 minutes.
George Fox controlled much of the possession offensively, finishing with 16 shots compared to Northwest's seven. The Bruins put four shots on goal, but Northwest goalkeeper Bailey Hopkins came up with four saves to keep the Eagles level.
Northwest had opportunities of its own, putting two shots on goal. Benjamin Toscano led the Eagles with three shots, including one on goal, while Titus Bishop recorded one shot on target. Andrey Kozorezov also added a pair of shots.
The Eagles' defense held strong throughout the match, with Elias Holly recording a defensive save in the first half. Northwest also earned two corner kicks while limiting George Fox to one.
"It's always good to get the first game under our belt and officially start the season. I thought the guys competed really well and created a number of opportunities to score; we just couldn't find the back of the net," said Northwest head coach Gary McIntosh. "The team's effort and willingness to compete for one another were encouraging, and that's a great place to start. Now we can turn our attention to the tactical side of the game and continue to improve. We're excited for the week ahead at Camp Jonah, where we'll have a great opportunity to build team chemistry and prepare for our next game near Portland."
Neither team was able to break through in the second half, sending the match into the books as a 0-0 draw.
With the result, Northwest moves to 0-0-1 on the season.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, Aug. 25, traveling to Forest Grove, Oregon, to take on Pacific University. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. PST.
