Puget Sound Tops Northwest Women’s Soccer, 3-0

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University women's soccer team fell to the University of Puget Sound, 3-0, Tuesday afternoon at Northwest's field.

After a scoreless first half, Puget Sound broke through early in the second period. Sofia Evans opened the scoring in the 52nd minute off an assist from Madi Jarzynka before Ellie Rutkin added a goal less than two minutes later. Avery Willis scored the final goal of the match in the 74th minute off an assist from Hayden Goodman.

Northwest created opportunities throughout the match, finishing with 10 shots and four shots on goal. Kambree Degon led the Eagles with three shots, including two on target, while Elise Jones and Neveah Howerton each recorded a shot on goal. The Eagles also held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Eagles continued to push late in the contest, with Madison Coulter hitting the crossbar in the 83rd minute and Northwest earning a corner kick shortly after.

"Today's game didn't go as we had hoped. We struggled to find momentum and flow to the game," said Head Coach April VanAssche. "However, there were some great moments and some good soccer that we will build off of going into the next game on Saturday!"

Northwest moves to 1-1-0 on the season, while Puget Sound improves to 1-0-0.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Aug. 29, when they travel to face Pacific Lutheran University at 1:00 p.m. PST.
