BILLINGS, Mont. – Northwest University women's soccer battled Rocky Mountain College to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Billings, Montana.
The Eagles took an early lead in the 33rd minute when Liliana Eckert found the back of the net with an unassisted goal. Northwest carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime after a strong defensive effort.
Rocky Mountain equalized in the 77th minute, but Northwest continued to battle through the final minutes to secure the draw. Goalkeeper Ali Tiechner recorded eight saves in the contest, helping the Eagles withstand 20 shots from the Bears.
Northwest finished with eight shots, including four on goal. Eckert led the Eagles with two shots on goal, while Talia Hurst also recorded two shots on target.
Head Coach April VanAssche said, "So incredibly proud of how the team came back and played today! We played extremely well together as a team and fought hard for 90 minutes! It's not easy playing in Montana with the elevation and the heat, and I'm very proud of how this team handled those circumstances again today and came out with fire and discipline to at least get the draw! So many different players contributed in so many ways this trip, and we are very excited to keep getting better and stronger as a team!"
The Eagles move to 2-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.
Northwest returns home for its next CCC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 3, against the University of Providence (Mont.). Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PDT at the NU athletic field.
