Randall Edens joined as the women's basketball head coach in the spring of 2024.
Edens, the 2012 NFHS Washington State Girls Basketball and Coaches Association Coach of the Year, was at the girls' basketball head coaching position for the 19 years, 18 at Lake Stevens High School (LSHS) and one year at Issaquah High School in 2023-24 (ISH). Those 19 years accumulated a staggering 319-125 record highlighted with seven WESCO Championships, five District Championships, 10 state tournament appearances, and two state placings. Edens built the most successful girls' basketball program in LSHS history.
In his single year as head coach at IHS, Edens led the girls' basketball program to 13-10 overall, 6-7 in league, finishing fifth in King County 4A.
Edens has been a high school social studies teacher since 2000, starting at his alma mater, Marysville Pilchuck High School (MPHS) until 2007 when he took the same position at LSHS, where he continues to teach today. While coaching the girls' basketball team and teaching social studies, Edens took over the MPHS boys' and girls' cross country programs. In 2011, Edens shifted over to Marysville Getchell High School for the head cross country coach position.
Edens also works as an advance scout for the WNBA, working with teams such as the Tulsa Shock, Washington Mystics, Chicago Sky, and Minnesota Lynx (WNBA Champions 2015).
Edens began his collegiate academics at Eastern Washington University and received his B.A. in social studies education at Washington State University. Most recently in 2014, Edens returned to school to receive his M.A. in learning and technology from Western Governors University.
When not on the basketball court or cross country trail, Randy enjoys golfing and fishing during "humpy salmon season." He also loves to travel with his wife and family.
Edens' family consists of his wife Kim, who teaches history at Marysville Getchell High School, his son Carter, and two daughters Ella and Kasey.
