Eagles Snap Streak, Shut Out Knights

Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – The NU Eagles handed Warner Pacific their seventh straight loss in a 3-0 (27-29, 21-25, 21-25) tonight at C.C. Perry Gym and snapped a five game losing streak of their own in the process. The visiting Eagles used their size advantage at the net to score 11 total blocks and force WP into 26 hitting errors.

The first set saw Northwest take a 16-11 lead, but WPC came roaring back with 7 straight points to take a 18-16 lead. After the teams traded points down the stretch, the Knights served for set point three times. Warner Pacific could not find the winning point, and committed three straight errors to give the Eagles the win, 29-27.

Warner Pacific sprinted out to an early 6-1 lead in set two, but NU slowly crept back into contention. A service error from NU put the Knights ahead 21-20, but the Eagles closed out the set with five straight points including a pair of kills from Hannah Hanson.

Northwest got off to the fast start in set three and built a 14-7 advantage. The Knights fought back to tie the set at 21-all, but a late surge by the Eagles with four straight points gave them the set and the match.

Freshman Hannah Hanson led Northwest (7-15, 3-9 CCC) with 10 kills without an error, while Rae Anne Hastings added nine kills. Leia Roy was solid on the back line, contributing a match high 23 digs.

Warner Pacific (1-12, 4-19 CCC) was led by 11 kills from Julia Toscano, and a season high 10 kills from Brittney Bevens.

Said Steven Bain, NU volleyball coach, "We were able to maintain our composure at critical points this evening which is something we have been striving to do. I also thought the players did a terrific job of staying focused on the game plan tonight. "

Northwest returns home for their final two home matches of the season next weekend when they host Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech in the Pavilion at 7 p.m. both evenings.
