Raiders Take Down Eagles in Four Sets

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University managed to take a set from Southern Oregon, but the Raiders prevailed 3-1 (24-23, 25-13, 21-25, 25-13) to earn their 13th win of the season and improve to 10-3 in CCC play. Northwest drops to 7-16 on the year and 3-10 in league play.

It was Northwest taking an early 10-6 lead on SOU after Rae Haistings kill. Two straight kills by Haistings and Hannah Hanson would lift the Eagles to a 21-15 lead. But, a 6-0 run by Southern Oregon would tie the score at 21-all after four straight attack errors on the Eagles. The pivotal point in the set came after Paulla Pinheiro's kill which would give the Raiders the lead for good as another Pinheiro kill and two NU miscues would give the set to SOU.

Set two would start close and see the teams ties at 10-all, but SOU would slowly pull away to increase their lead on the Eagles. With SOU leading 14-11, 5 straight points would give the Raiders a 19-11 lead after three straight NU errors and a service ace by Pinheiro. SOU would outscore NU 6-2 to take the set.

The third set would be a close one marked by 12 ties. Kills by Alivia Johnson and Sarah Stoker would give Northwest a 19-18 lead, but a service error would tie the set for the final time at 19. Another Stoker kill and service ace by Arika Zwack would give NU the lead for good and they would hold on for the 25-21 set win punctuated by another Stoker kill.

Southern Oregon would sprint out to a 16-5 lead in the final set after Paulla Pinheiro's kill. Two more Pinheiro kills would make it 18-7 and Nikki Keller's kill and final point would end the set and match in favor of the Raiders.

Olivia VanDlac led Northwest U. (7-16, 3-10 CCC) with 11 kills and 12 digs to complete the double double. Sarah Stoker added 10 kills while Christina Gleb came through with a team high 34 assists. Leia Roy led the Eagles with 17 digs to lead five Eagles with double digit digs.

Paulla Pinheiro had a game high 19 kills for Southern Oregon (13-7, 10-3 CCC) and a .357 hitting percentage. Mona Goudarzian had a double double with 13 kills and 17 digs. Lauren McGowne had a match high 45 assists and Renee Yomtob had a match high 21 digs.

Northwest finished their home schedule tomorrow night hosting Oregon Tech while Southern Oregon travels to Olympia to play the Evergreen State College.
