Eagles Score Early, Hold On to Defeat OIT

NU's Rachel Saleen between to OIT defenders
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored just 1:46 into the first half and then held off Oregon Tech for a 1-0 shutout victory on the NU Athletic Field this afternoon.

The Eagles got their goal when Shea Samuelsen took a cross from Kelsey Greene from just outside the 18 yard mark and put it off the left post  from 8 yards out and into the back of the net for the only score of the game. Both teams would have scoring opportunities they couldn't convert or the defenses stepped up to halt a potential score.

Oregon Tech's Kylie Durant had a shot in the 50th minute that just missed and went over the crossbar and Rebekah Nisbet's shot from 16 yards out on the right side went just right of the goal. OIT's goalkeeper Rebekah Matteri made two key saves on shot buy Megan Beisley at 78:46 and in the 81st minute as she stopped a shot by the Eagles Samantha Porter.

Northwest (9-7-1, 5-2-1 CCC) out shot Oregon Tech (6-9-1, 3-5 CCC) 15-9 as NU keeper Patty Hughes earned the shutout with 3 saves. Rebekah Matteri had 9 saves for the Owls in goal. Acacia Johnson had 5 shots for NU while Rebekah Nisbet led OIT with 5 shots on the day.

"I was pleased we were able to score early," said Val Seid, Northwest head coach, "and then our defense and Patty Hughes in goal took over and showed persistence in holding off Oregon Tech's offense. Our ladies really took pride in keeping our unbeaten record at home intact this season and I'm proud of them for doing so."

Northwest U. remains at home for a key match-up with Southern Oregon, 3-1 winners over Evergreen today and the teams had identical 5-2-1 marks going into Saturday afternoon's game at 3 p.m. It will also be senior day for NU.
