Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored a goal in each half for a 2-0 victory over Evergreen to open Cascade Conference play this afternoon. The game was played under sunny skies and 70 degree weather.
Annie-Brynn Stauffer opened the scoring for the Eagles at the 22:23 mark as she beat her defender and put in a left footer from 20 yards out and into the upper left corner of the net. Neither team was able to score for the next 23 minutes and NU would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Acacia Johnson then scored in the 74
th minute as she took
Tiffany Taylor's pass on the right side, dribbled and scored from 15 yards out and into the lower left corner.
Northwest U. (5-5, 1-0 CCC) led in the shot column with 17 shots to Evergreen's 7. The Geoducks (1-5, 0-1 CCC) would go without a corner kick while Northwest would have 7 attempts. NU goalkeeper,
Patty Hughes earned the shutout and grabbed 7 saves for the Eagles while Evergreen's Kaitlin Mackenzie also took in 7 saves for the Geoducks. Shea Samuelsen led both teams with 8 shots on the day, 3 on goal.
Northwest will travel to Eugene on October 10 to play Northwest Christian while Evergreen will take to the road for Salem and an October 10th match-up with Corban.
