SOU Completes Sweep of Eagles

Box Score ASHLAND, Ore. – The NU Eagles were swept by Southern Oregon tonight, 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) to drop to 2-6 in conference play and 6-12 overall. It was the seventh time in the past eight matches the Eagles have been swept.

In set one and with the score tied at 8-8, Southern Oregon would rattle off 6 straight points including four straight kills by SOU's Mona Goudarzian to make it 14-8 in favor of the Raiders. SO would outscore NU 11-8 the remainder of the set for the win.

Set two would be close at the outset, but with SOU leading 9-8, a 5-0 run by the Raiders capped off by a Paulla Pinheiro service ace would give the Raiders a 14-8 lead they would never relinquish. Goudarzian would close out the set with two kills.

The final set would see the Eagles give a good effort and stay within three, 13-10 after a kill by NU's Arika Zwack. But, a 4-1 run by Southern Oregon fueled by Pinheiro and Goudarzian kills would give the raiders a 17-11 lead which they would maintain until three straight Penheiro kills would end the set and match in favor of the Raiders.

Hannah Hanson led the Eagles (6-12, 2-6 CCC) with 8 kills as NU would manage to hit only .126 as a team tonight. Christina Gleb had 26 assists and Olivia VanDlac had a team high 16 digs.

Mona Goudarzian and Paulla Pinheiro led SOU (9-7, 6-3 CCC) with 17 and 13 kills respectively. Goudarzian hit .455 while Pinheiro an impressive .478. Lauren McGowne had match high 38 assists while teammate Renee Yomtob led both teams with 24 digs.

"We played a much cleaner match tonight and I was pleased with our effort and intensity against a very strong Southern squad," commented Steven Bain, NU head coach.
