Box Score
LA MIRADA, Calif. – Biola University came through with two second half goals as the Eagles defeated the Northwest University Eagles, 2-1, in a non-conference season opener for both teams tonight.

Both defenses kept the game close in the first half with the teams yielding a total of 9 shots, 5 by Biola and 4 by Northwest as the teams battled to a scoreless tie.

Chew would then score his second goal and the game winner a little over 6 minutes later as he took a deflection off NU goalkeeper, Joe Galbraith, to score from 5 yards out.

Northwest U. would not go away easily and would score less than a minute later as Mack Samuelsen would head the ball past the Biola keeper on a corner kick from Jacob Weaver. Samuelsen's goal came from the right side of the goal. NU would have an opportunity in the 86th minute off a corner kick by Todd Siedenberg, but would not score.

JT Addington got the win for Biola with 3 saves in 90 minutes for the Eagles. Mack Samuelsen had three shots and the goal for NU. Biola had 7 corner kicks to 6 by Northwest.

"It was a tough loss for us," stated NU coach Gary McIntosh, "but I was pleased with the way we came out and played. The last 36 hours has been a whirlwind with traveling from Seattle to California, but I thought we played with a lot of energy for 70 minutes. Those last 20 minutes we struggled with tired legs." McIntosh continued, "We'll get the next two days off to rest and to get ready for Saturday's game with San Diego Christian."

NU will now travel to El Cajon to play San Diego Christian College on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. It will be a homecoming for Eagle head coach Gary McIntosh who graduated from SDCC, played soccer for the Hawks and began his head coaching career there in 1998.
