Rocky Mountain Takes Two From Eagles

Box Score

KIRKLAND, Wash. – It was a tough day for the Eagles as Rocky Mountain College (Mont.) defeated the Northwest University men and women in a doubleheader this afternoon. The RMC women scored a 3-1 victory over Northwest and the Battlin' Bear men shutout the NU men, 3-0 in the second game. Both RMC teams are ranked in the NAIA Top 25.

The No. 24 ranked RMC women got goals from Chez Keehn (11:06), Mandi Achten (49:13) and Jaelene Zygmond (67:07) to build a 3-0 lead on Northwest before Rachel Saleen scored unassisted in the 85th minute. Northwest (0-3) outshot Rocky Mountain 16-13, but the Bears' goalkeeper, Missy Schultz, turn away the NU shots with 10 saves on the day. Patty Hughes had 5 saves in goal for Northwest.

In the second game, three first half goals by No. 22 Rocky Mountain (3-0) was enough as their defense held Northwest (1-2) scoreless and without a shot on goal to preserve the shutout. The Bears' goals came early as Ben Teasdale put RMC up 1-0 just 6:03 into the game with his shot from 6 yards out as he put the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Oliver Gore scored the first of his two goals in the 11th minute as he took a Teasdale pass and scored from 20 yards out. Gore scored again at the 22:11 mark as he took a pass from Michael Eggen and score from 6 yards out right of center.

RMC outshot the Eagles 18-7 as NU goalkeeper, Joe Galbraith, finished with 7 saves. Rocky Mountain goalkeeper Joachim Soderstrom earned the shutout.

Said NU men's coach, Gary McIntosh, "We did not come ready to compete in the first half and the result was being down by 2 in the first 10 minutes.  Playing from behind for most of the game was too much for us to overcome against a ranked team like Rocky Mountain."
