Eagles Fall in Three to No. 16 Mountaineers

Ashton Arbuthnot led NU with 21 assists tonight.
Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. - The NU Eagles ran into a very good and hot No. 16 ranked Eastern Oregon tonight and fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) in CCC play.

Nu found themselves down 20-9 in the first set as the Mountaineers got off to a quick start. The teams traded errors in the final three points of the set as it ended on a miscue by the Eagles.

The second set was close most of the way as the early going would see 7 ties. With the score tied at 11-11, EOU would go on a 6-1 run capped off by three straight Nu attack errors. EOU kills by Katie Keeney and Casey Loper aided the cause. Down 21-15, NU would battle back to within three, 23-20, on a kill by Molly Boyle and two kills by Arika Zwack. Keeney and Loper would end the set with kills in the final two points.

EOU would lead the entire third set and would answer every Eagle challenge. NU would make it an 18-14 set, but three straight points by the Mounties would build their lead back to 21-14. Stefani Sorensen's kill would end the set and the match.

Northwest (5-7, 1-2 CCC) was led by Rae Ann Haistings as she finished with 6 kills and 10 digs. Ashton Arbuthnot had a team high 21 assists and Leia Roy led the Eagles with 19 digs.

EOU is 12-2 overall and 2-0 in Cascade Conference play.

Said NU head coach, Steven Bain, "We learned again tonight what it's like to play one of the top teams in the conference and like Concordia, we had no answer for Eastern's intensity and physical play. Nonetheless, the experience is good for this team and we will continue to work on making the changes that will make us better."
