Guerrero's Late Goal Lifts Eagles over No. 12 Concordia

Josh Guerrero puts in his first of two second half goals
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University's Josh Guerrero's 30 yard rocket in the 83rd minute lifted the Eagles to a 3-2 upset of No. 12 Concordia this afternoon as the teams opened Cascade Conference play.

Guerrero's blast came off a pass from teammate Ryan Gamache as he drove the ball into the right corner of the goal for the game winner. Guerrero had given NU the lead earlier (2-1) in the 66th minute as Hunter Madich lifted a pass to Guerrero who finished with a blast from 35 yards out. Less than 2 minutes later, Concordia's Quinn Sinser took a through ball and beat his defender to score to tie the score at 2-all.

Edgar Esquivel gave Northwest (3-2-0, 1-0 CCC) the early lead at the 13:43 mark as his shot from 8 yards out was deflected off the Cavalier goalkeeper and sailed into the lower right corner. The teams went over 30 minutes without a score until Concordia's Michael Chamberlain took Radcliffe McDougald's pass and put it past the NU goalie from 6 yards out to tie the score at 1-1 with 49:45 showing on the clock.

Concordia (3-2-0, 0-1 CCC) outshot Northwest 18-7, but many of the CU shots just missed their mark sailing wide or high. Joe Galbraith earned the win for NU with 3 saves in goal while Scott Gross took the loss with 2 saves for the Cavaliers.

Said NU head coach Gary McIntosh, "I'm proud of the team today!  We wanted to come out and take our game to them and that's exactly what we did. Joe (Galbraith) and the defense played well in the back and limited their chances. Josh stepped up and scored two great goals each time we needed them. We played with grit and composure today."

Northwest now travels to Idaho to play the College of Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 21 while Concordia travels to Eugene to play Northwest Christian on Saturday.
