Eagles Fly High Over Evergreen

Rachel Saleen heads in her second goal of the day
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University's Rachel Saleen scored two goals to help lift the Eagles over the Evergreen State College, 4-0, this afternoon in a non-conference game.

It was NU's Jessie Oliver getting the Eagles on the scoreboard early as she dribbled up to the 6 yard box and scored just 2:11 into the game. Saleen score her first goal in the 34th minute when she took a pass from Megan Beisley and score from 20 yards out and into the upper right corner of the net as Northwest would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Saleen put her second goal on the board 2 minutes and 50 seconds into the second half with her header off Shea Samuelsen's corner kick. Tiffany Taylor finished the day's scoring on a through ball and from 20 yards out as the ball sailed in to upper left corner of the goal. Lina Arciniegas had the assist on the play.

Northwest (3-5-0) dominated in the shot column with 18 to Evergreen's (1-3-0) nine as the Geoduck's Kaitlin Mackenzie had 6 saves in goal for visitors from Olympia. Patty Hughes and Lauren Patefield combined for the shutout with Patefield grabbing two saves in goal for NU. Jessica Oliver led Northwest with 4 shots followed by Shea Samuelsen's 3. Kori Lerch had three shots for Evergreen.

"I thought our ladies played well today after getting out to a little bit of a slow in the first half," said Val Seid, NU head coach. "We made some adjustments at halftime and told the team to go at it and play their game and not the opponent's and they did just that. We picked up the tempo and played our game. We've been working on our set pieces so it was good to see us score out of them today. It was great to see a lot of players get time in the game and it was a great effort by the entire team."
