Warriors Edge Eagles in Battle for Top Spot

Box Score SALEM, Ore. - The Corban University Warriors scored the lone goal in the game to defeat Northwest U. and take sole possession of first place in the Cascade Conference today. Both teams came into the contest with 2-0-0 league records and tied for first place.

The lone goal came in the 48th minute when Arsinio Walker took Joe Galbraith's goal kick and scored one-on-one against Galbraith for the only goal of the game. The Eagles were limited to 5 shots, but four of the shots were on goal only to be saved by Corban keeper Jordan Farr who earned the shutout. Joe Galbraith allowed just the lone goal and made 8 saves for he Eagles, five in the second half.

NU had an opportunity late in the game as they had three straight corner kicks in the 88th minute, but could not find success in one of their set pieces.

Josh Guerrero led the Eagles (4-3-0, 2-1-0 CCC) with two shots, both on goal. Derek Chaney had four shots for the Warriors and teammate Kemar Prince finished with 3 shots.

"We beat ourselves today," said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "We didn;t play with any eagerness today and we can't play that way and expect to win. We'll regroup and prepare for our next road trip to Northwest Christian on Saturday."

Northwest U. travels to Eugene, Ore., Saturday for a 5 p.m. game with the Beacons.
