Northwest held the edge in shot with a 19-15 margin and NU goalkeeper
Joe Galbraith earned the shutout with 3 saves in goal for the Eagles. Whitman goalie, Stuart Ellsworth garnered 5 saves for the Missionaries from Walla Walla.
Josh Guerrero and Mack Samuelsen led NU with 3 shots a piece while Junpei Tsuji and Riley Paul had three each for Whitman (0-2-1).
Â
"The guys played well today," commented
Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "Joe (Galbraith) got us going early with some great saves and the team just fed off of that. Our short passes were on today and it created lots of combination play for us. Trever (Moll) held his position well and got us our first goal. The second goal was excellent buildup of passes and combination play with Mike tucking it home. Our defense was good today and I felt like Alex (Taylor) really kept the back line organized. Always great to win with and get the shutout."
Northwest has a bit of break and will begin preparing for their conference opener against Concordia on Sept. 17 in Kirkland.
