Eagle Men Grind Out Win Over Geoducks

Taylor Young celebrates after scoring the game winner. #2 Trever Moll had one of the assists on the goal
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored early in the first half and held on for a 1-0 shutout of Evergreen in Cascade Conference play today. NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson made a key save on a penalty kick in the first half which helped preserve the victory for the Eagles.

Evergreen was fouled in the box 7 minutes into the game setting up a penalty kick for the Geoduck's Willie Spurr. His shot was saved by Christenson preventing the Evergreen score and the game remained tied at 0-0.

NU's Taylor Young scored what proved to be the game winner in the 25th minute with his header from the 6 yard mark. Trever Moll and Odason Pelogi were credited with the double assist on the play.

The Northwest U (10-2, 6-2 CCC) defense turned away Evergreen (4-6-1, 4-3-1 CCC) scoring opportunities in the second half with Christenson making two saves in the half to help keep the Geoducks scoreless. Evergreen outshot NU 13 to 5.

Said Gary McIntosh, NU head coach, "The guys put in a lot of effort today to get this win. Nothing came easy today as we could never find the rhythm that we like to play with. Trever (Moll) does this all the time but he makes things happen with his energy and work ethic. Taylor (Young) was the recipient of the goal off a great double assist. Daniel Christenson came through with a huge save on the PK to help keep Evergreen off the scoreboard. It proved to be the difference in the game.  It's always nice to get the shutout."

Northwest U will remain home and will host league-leading Corban on Wednesday, Oct.15 at 3 p.m.
