Eagles Shutout Corban, Tied for First Place

Taylor Young scored the lone goal and game winner today, his fifth game winner this season
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Northwest University's Taylor Young scored the only goal of the game as the Eagles shutout Corban this afternoon on Sparks Field in Salem. The win moves NU over Corban in the standings and into a tie with Concordia for first place in the Cascade Conference with 27 points.

The teams battled back and forth in the first half but defense was the key as neither team would manage a score. Daniel Christenson grabbed 5 first half saves as the Warriors outshot Northwest U 12-2 in the period.

In the second half, the defenses held strong for 19 minutes until NU's Taylor Young took Trever Moll's pass at the 63:51 mark and put it passed the Corban goalkeeper from 15 yards for the game winner. The Eagle defense stiffened in the second half giving up only 6 Corban shots with Christenson taking in one save.

While being outshot 18-9, Northwest U (13-3, 9-3 CCC) had 6 shots on goal, the same as the Warriors.  For Young, a senior from Bellevue, Wash., it was his 10th goal of the season and second straight game he has scored since returning from injury. It was Young's fifth game winner of the season. Daniel Christenson had 6 saves in goal for NU and earns the shutout. Steven Mason had 5 saves for Corban in the loss.

"This team plays with a belief that if they put in the work they will have a chance to win the game," commented Gary McIntosh, NU head soccer coach. "Corban is a well-coached team and we knew they would take it to us early on. Our defense was great today limiting their quality of chances and Daniel (Christenson) in goal came up with some big saves. We had a few opportunities to score but Taylor Young continues to score big goals for us.  It was a great team win by the guys today."

Northwest U will return to Kirkland, but will travel to Eugene on Saturday, Nov. 1 to play Northwest Christian in a 5:00 p.m. game.
