Owls Sweep the Eagles

Rae Ann Haistings puts one past OIT blockers
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Oregon Tech swept Northwest University 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) in three closely contested sets tonight. Oregon Tech improves to 17-6 for the year, 5-4 in Cascade Conference play. Northwest U drops to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in league play.

The first set was close most of the way with 15 ties throughout. After the final tie at 18-18, an attack error would give OIT the lead for good and Kristin Depaoli got one of her game high 13 kills to increase the Owl lead to 20-18. Mikayla Rubey would give the set win to OIT with her kill to make it 25-21 OIT.

Set two was a key turning point in the match as Northwest U would start fast and take a 19-11 lead after Christina Gleb's service ace.  But that would fuel an Oregon Tech come back as the Owls would slowly chip away at the Eagles' lead. A Rubey kill would cut the NU lead to 6, 21-15. A kill by Kelsey Rank, a miscue by NU and a Depaoli kill would tie the score at 22-22 as OIT would go on to win the set capped off by Whitney Webster's kill.

Northwest would lead early in the final set, 9-5, but the Owls would come back once again to tie the set at 12-all after another Depaoli kill. After another tie, two straight NU errors would give Tech a 15-13 advantage as they would maintain the lead the remainder of the set for the match victory.

Senior Rae Ann Haistings led Northwest U with 11 kills followed by freshman Amanda Waterman's 10 kills and 7 digs. Morgan Pilon had 17 assists and Leia Roy led the team once again with 10 digs.

Oregon Tech was led by Kristin Depaoli's 13 kills and impressive .478 hitting average. Teammate Mikayla Rubey added 10 kills and hit .588 for the match. 22 assists would give Tori Porter match honors and Jennifer Lakin had a match high 15 digs. Tech hit .293 as a team.

Said NU head coach, Steven Bain, "It's a simple game. If you can serve and pass you will be in system and have an opportunity to win. On this night, Oregon Tech won that battle handily and deserved to win."

NU wlll travel next weekend and will play #12 Eastern Oregon in La Grande on friday and the College of Idaho in Caldwell on Saturday.
