Johnson Hat Trick Lifts Eagles to Shutout of Beacons

Acacia Johnson heads in her second goal of the game
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University's senior forward, Acacia Johnson (Puyallup, Wash.), scored three goals as the Eagles shutout Northwest Christian 3-0 in Cascade Conference play this afternoon for their 5th straight win and 5th straight shutout. NU improves to 4-0 in CCC play and maintains their hold on first place.

Johnson scored her first goal just 2:53 into the game as she took a through ball from teammate Tiffany Taylor between the NCU center backs and one touched the ball into the net. In the 10th minute, Johnson scored off a cross from Kelsey Greene from the right and finished with a header into the upper part of the net. She then completed the hat trick at the76:41 mark when she scored unassisted off a goalkeeper deflection from 6 yards out. The goals give Johnson 11 for the season.

Northwest U's defense limited Northwest Christian (5-8, 1-4 CCC) to just two shots, one in each half with no shots on goal. NCU's keeper, Kristin Fulbright, made 9 saves for the game with Northwest U holding a large margin in shots with a 21-2 difference. NCU played shorthanded for the final 11 minutes of the game after a red card was issued to a Beacon player.

Acacia Johnson led Northwest U (6-5-1, 4-0 CCC) with 7 shots, 5 shots on goal.

"Our objective was to come out fast and pressure and I think we accomplished that today," said Val Seid, NU head coach. "Scoring early was a result of our pressure and our ladies did a good job of getting us those opportunities early. It was a physical game and I'm really proud of the way our team maintained their composure throughout and stayed mentally strong. Defensively, we did a good job of limiting their offense and gave up no real scoring opportunities today."

Northwest U remains home and will play host to Corban in the first game of a doubleheader with the Eagle men on Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
