Loggers Second Half Goal Defeats Eagles

Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget Sound broke a 1-1 tie in the 77th minute to edge Northwest University 2-1 in a non-conference game this afternoon.
 
Amalia Acorda-Fey gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead just 2:59 in the game after teammate Liz Blonden chipped a shot over the NU goalkeeper and Acorda-Fey tapped the ball in from the left side. UPS would hold NU scoreless in the first half, but Acacia Johnson would score for the Eagles in the 62nd minute as she took Kortney Hudak's cross in front of the goal and put it past the UPS keeper on the right side to tie the game at 1-1.
 
It was UPS' Annie Jonsson coming through with the game winner at the 75:27 mark Robin Vieira put a cross from the right side into the 6 yard box where Jonsson finished for the goal.
 
Puget Sound (1-1) outshot Northwest U 13-9 and Northwest U (1-3-1) held the edge in corners with a 6-5 margin. Acacia Johnson led NU with four shots while Acorda-Fey and Jonsson each had three for the Loggers. Lauren Thomas earned the win for UPS in goal with 2 saves for the afternoon while NU's goalkeeper, Patty Hughes had 3 saves for the Eagles.
 
Northwest U will continue non-conference play this week as they travel to Portland to take on Concordia from Irvine, Calif., and Vanguard from Costa Mesa, Calif. Both teams are out of the GSAC (Golden state Athletic Conference).
