Evergreen Hands Eagles First Loss

NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson had five saves for the Eagles today
Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – Evergreen broke a scoreless tie with two second half goals to hand the NU Eagles their first loss of the season, 2-0, on a warm, sunny afternoon.

The defenses held strong in the first half as none of the 15 combined shots could find the net. NU's Daniel Christenson was strong in goal for the Eagles, saving four shots on goal in the first period. Geoduck goalkeeper, Angel Guerra , stopped three NU shots.

Juan Lopez broke the tie in the 70th minute as he found a crease in the Eagle defense and scored from 20 yards out up the middle. At the 77:03 mark, Willie Spurr took Juan Oropeza's pass and scored from the right side to give ESC the 2-0 lead.

The Eagles pressed hard offensively, but Guerra would not allow a score and stopped two NU shots on goal. Ryan Gamache had a shot in the 86th minute, but the ESC goalkeeper was there for the save.  Evergreen held the edge in shots, 14-12, but Northwest U had 13 corner kicks to just 4 for the Geoducks (2-3-0, 2-0 CCC).

Daniel Christenson finished with 5 saves in goal for the Eagles (5-1-0, 1-1-0 CCC). Jacob Weaver had 3 shots for NU while Taylor Young was held to two shots for the contest.


Said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach, "We need to learn from this loss today. Every game in the conference is tough. We need to bounce back quickly for our next game on Tuesday with Northwest Christian."

Northwest U returns to Kirkland and will host Northwest Christian at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on the NU Athletic Field.
