Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Concordia's defense held Northwest University to a single goal as they defeated the Eagles 2-1 in Cascade Conference play this afternoon to remain unbeaten in league play.
Anthony Sanchez gave Concordia a 1-0 lead with his chip from the right side that got by NU goalkeeper,
Daniel Christenson for the score. Ben Culpan had the assist on the play. Both defenses held the remainder of the half as CU would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The defenses took control in the second half not allowing a score until the 80
th minute when CU's Tucker Burton's 5 yard shot found the mark to give the Cavaliers a 2-0 lead.
With time winding down, Northwest U got on the scoreboard as
Jacob Weaver took
Taylor Young's pass 20 yards out on the right side and put the ball inside the near post to cut the lead to 2-1 with just under 4 minutes to go.
Taylor Young had his shot saved by CU goalkeeper Mitch McCaw at the 87:33 mark as time would run out.
Concordia's defense limited NU to 9 shots for the game, 7 in the second half while taking 22 of their own.
Daniel Christenson had 5 saves in goal for the Eagles with Mitch McCaw grabbing 3 saves for the Cavs (5-3, 4-0 CCC).
Jacob Weaver and
Chris Iacolucci led Northwest U (6-2, 2-2 CCC) with three shots each.
Taylor Young added one assist to his league-leading assist mark which is now at 5 for the season. Ben Culpan had 5 shots for Concordia.
Said Gary McIntosh, NU coach, "We played a good game today and we were just unfortunate not to put away our chances. I wanted us to come out and pressure and play our game and we did that." Northwest U returns to Kirkland and will host Oregon Tech and the College of Idaho on Oct. 3 and 4 next weekend.
