Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - For the second consecutive night the Northwest University team found themselves in a five set match and tonight found themselves on the winning side with a 3-2 upset of No. 7 Eastern Oregon, handing the Mountaineers their second loss of the season (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-10) and first conference setback.
Eastern Oregon battled back from a 2-1 set deficit to tie the match, the same scenario the Eagles faced last night against the College of Idaho. But, tonight, it was Northwest U holding on to a 7-4 lead to win the set and the match.
Eight ties and several lead changes in the first set would indicate the way the night would go for the two teams. Trailing 16-17, NU would tie the game at 17 and would regain the lead on an Emmaline Stockton service ace and an EOU attack error. The Eagles would maintain the lead the remainder of the set. Eastern Oregon  (19-2, 14-1 CCC)? would turn the tables on NU in the second set and it would be the Mounties taking the lead for good after breaking a 15-15 tie. Emily Nay and Kasaundra Tuma would end the set with kills.
Set three would see Northwest U building a 22-17 after kills by Sydney Schlect and Hannah Hanson. EOU would pull to within one, 24-23, But Amanda Waterman would get one of her 14 kills to give the set to NU and a 2-1 lead in the match. EOU proved they are worthy of the No. 7 ranking as they came back strong in the fourth set and after NU would manage to tie the set at 12, Eastern would outscore the Eagles for an 18-13 lead on their way to the 25-16 set win and send the match into the fifth and final set.
A kill by NU's Sydney Schlect and a timely service ace by Leia Roy would give the Eagles a 7-4 lead in set five. Hannah Hanson, playing through a sore back, would score a critical kill with the score 11-9 to put NU up by three. Sarah Warner's ace would make it match point at 12-9 and after an NU attack error, Schlect would give the Eagles the upset victory with her 12th kill of the match. Amanda Waterman registered her second straight double-double for Northwest U (14-7, 10-5 CCC) with 14 kills and 10 digs. The Eagle defense had 11 blocks and limited the Mounties to .162 hitting for the night while managing just .098 as EOU racked up 13 blocks. Morgan Pilon had 38 assists and Emmaline Stockton led four Eagles in double figures in digs with 18. Emily Nay led EOU with a match high 16 kills while Amanda Miller had 15 kills. Rachelle Chamberlain had a big night with a match high 51 assists. Tylo Colflesh and Holli Mullins tied for team honors with 17 digs. Sarah Pulaski added 16 digs for the Mountaineers.
"After last night's disappointing loss I was keen to see how the players would respond and to their credit they bounced back and gave maximum effort," said Eagle head coach, Steve Bain. "Eastern is really a terrific team and we knew that we would have to pressure them with our serve to have a chance. Fortunately, we were able to do that and then we did just enough on offense to win the match. Now the task is to get back to work and continue to improve and do the little things that will enable us to be successful down the stretch."
NU will play a non-league match against New Hope Christian in Eugene, Ore., on Oct. 22 and then travel to Corban and Norhwest Christian on Oct. 23 and 24.
