NU Falls to No. 1 Seed EOU in Semifinal

Amanda Waterman had her 12th double-double of the season
Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. - The NU Eagles gave a great effort tonight, but fell short losing to No. 1 seed, Eastern Oregon, in the CCC Champioships semifinal match on the Mountaineers home court.

The No. 4 seeded Eagles came out ready to play taking the first set from the 10th ranked team in the NAIA Top 25, 25-19. With NU leading early in the set, EOU would tie the score at 11-11, but the Eagles would regain the lead for good on two straight errors by EOU. Amanda Waterman's kill would put NU ahead 16-13 as they would maintain a 2-3 point lead the remainder of the set for the win.

NU fought hard in the second set tying the score four times, but EOU would take the lead with the score tied at 16-16 to win the set 25-19.

The two teams battled in the third set in the early going, but Eastern Oregon would break a 7-all tie with a 3-0 run and would slowly pull away for the narrow, 25-20 set win.

In the final set, the Mounties would jump out to a 20-8 lead after four straight attack errors by Northwest U. The Eagles would not be able to recover as the No. 1 seeded Mountaineers would win the set and the match to move on to the conference final.

Amanda Watermand led the Eagles with her 12th double-double: 10 kills and 14 digs. Morgan Pilon had 25 assists and Emmaline Stockton tied Waterman in digs with 14 for the night. The eou defense limited the Eagles to a .064 hitting percentage for the match.

Four Mountaineers (25-3) finished in double figures in kills with Amanda Miller leading the way with 12; Kasaundra Tuma 11; Emily Nay and Isabelle Statkus each had 10 kills. Rachelle Chamberlain finished with a match high 48 assists and Piper Cantrell with a match high 22 digs. The Mounties hit .227 for the match.

"First, congratulations to Eastern Oregon. Kaki does a terrific job and they play with great energy and passion," stated Steve Bain, NU head coach. "We had a great effort tonight as well, but with most matches, passing determines the level of play. We passed to our standards in the first set, which allowed us to stay with them. From the second set on, Eastern dominated in serve-receive and the result was predictable. The loss was doubly tough because this is a wonderful group of young women and I know they were all hoping to extend the season so they could send more time together."

The Eagles finish the season with a 20-10 record, the best record of any NU volleyball team since 2005.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for an outstanding season!
