Six Eagles on Their Way to Alabama

GULF SHORES, AL – Coach Mark Mandi and six Eagle athletes depart today (Tuesday) for the 2015 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama which begins May 21 and runs through Saturday, May 23. Making the trip with Mandi will be Jonathan Ferguson, a qualifier in the men's 1500m and the women's 4X800m relay team consisting of Robi Long, Shandon Lystad, Sarah Estabrook, Meagan Governor and Kaisa Hall (alternate).
 
The championships will be held at Mickey Miller Stadium which is part of a huge sports complex which also includes softball, soccer and football fields. The weather will be warm with temperatures in the mid-80's. The challenge will be handling the humidity which will hover in the 70% range all week.
 
Ferguson, a junior, is coming off one of his best outdoor seasons at NU and hit his NAIA qualifying mark in Bellingham on April 25 at the Ralph Vernacchia meet. He ran a 3:54.54 in the 1500m, just .13 seconds off Rusty McCrea's school record set in 2001.
 
The 4X800 relay team met the NAIA "B" qualifier at the Pacific University Twilight meet in Forest Grove, Oregon, on May 2. The team ran a 9:30.71, two seconds under the NAIA qualifying time in taking second place in the event.
 
Following opening ceremonies on Thursday, Jonathan Ferguson will be first up with the men's 1500m trials beginning at 3:30 p.m. CDT (1:30 p.m. PDT). The women's 4X800 relay trials will take place at 5:40 p.m. CDT. The finals for the 4X800 will be on Friday at 5:30 CDT with the men's final in the 1500m taking place on the final day, Saturday, at 2:50 p.m. CDT.
