AZUSA, Calif. – Northwest University track and field traveled to Azusa, California, to compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, April 16–18. The Eagles posted multiple strong performances against a deep national field, highlighted by national qualifying marks and a first-place finish in the field events.
On the track, Josiah Jaquith delivered a standout performance in the men's 3000m steeplechase open, clocking an 8:58.88 to place 31st overall. Jaquith's time surpassed the NAIA qualifying standard, securing his return trip to the NAIA National Championships. He currently holds the NAIA lead in the steeplechase and is ranked No. 14 overall in NAIA distance events, according to TSR's 2026 outdoor top 25 rankings.
In the women's 800m, Rachel Elliott continued her strong season with a time of 2:13.45, hitting the NAIA qualifying standard and earning her second national championship qualification of the year. Hannah Capusan also competed in the event for the Eagles.
Northwest saw major success in the field events, led by Isaiah Hollinger, who claimed a first-place finish in the men's javelin with a throw of 55.62m (182-5). Luke Posey added depth for the Eagles, placing eighth with a mark of 48.56m (159-4).
On the women's side, Evelyn Tomka continued her consistent performances in the javelin, taking second place with a throw of 39.18m.
Northwest will look to carry this momentum into the coming weeks as the Eagles continue their outdoor season competition.
