Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Northwest University faced some tough competition and lost in straight sets to No. 7 ranked Eastern Oregon 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 17-25) in a Cascade Conference match tonight.

Eastern Oregon improves to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play while NU drops to 8-4, 4-2 in the CCC.

Northwest U was trailing 9-7 in the first set, but the No. 7 Mountaineers would reel off a 7-2 scoring run capped off by two blocks and an Emily Nai kill. NU would not be able to recover and Eastern would increase their lead to 20-10 after a service ace by Tylo Golflesh and a kill by Amanda Miller. The Eagles would cut the lead to five, 23-18, but Kendra De Hoog would close out the set with a kill.

The second set would be a close set throughout and would find the teams tied at 10-10 midway through the set. Trailing 12-11, Northwest U would heat up and outscore the Mounties 3-2 to take a 14-13 lead after an EOU attack error. A service ace by NU's Alysanne Van Dyke and two more EOU attack errors would see the Eagles leading 18-14 as the Mountaineers would call a time out. Eastern would close the score to 18-17, but Mattie Jo Johnson's kill and Leia Roy's service ace would put NU in front 20-17. But, the nationally ranked EOU team would slowly chip away at the NU lead and three straight kills would give them a 23-22 lead. Amanda Waterman would tie the set at 23-all, but two straight miscues by the Eagles would end the set in favor of EOU.

The final set would be Eastern Oregon the entire way as they would break out to a 10-4 lead and maintain a safe distance the remainder of the set for the set and match victory. Two straight WOU kills would make it a 25-17 set score.

Sydney Schlect led the way for Northwest U (8-4, 4-2 CCC) with 10 kills. Amanda Waterman added 7 kills and 6 digs while Morgan Pilon had a team high 24 assists. Leia Roy contributed a match high four service aces and 7 digs for the Eagles.

Eastern Oregon's Amanda Miller led the Mountaineers (10-1, 5-0 CCC) with 13 kills (.345); Kendra De Hoog with 11 kills; and Isabelle Statkus finished with 10 kills. Rachelle Chamberlain had a match high 39 assists and Piper Cantrell had 13 digs.

Said Steve Bain, NU head coach, "Eastern simply made more good plays than we did and they did it over an extended period of time tonight. We are still learning that part of the game and we will use the experience to continue to improve. Eastern is a very good team and in their gym, they are even better. We battled, though, and our players approached the match with the proper mindset."

The Eagles now travel to Caldwell to take on the College of Idaho tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in the J.A. Albertson Center.
