Eagles Get Past Multnomah

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash.Alex Ballard's goal in the 10th minute proved to be the game winner as Northwest University defeated Multnomah University, 3-1, in Cascade Conference pay this afternoon. Thunder storms were in the forecast, but never materialized.

Ballard's goal came off a nifty give and go to teammate Branson Corwin as Ballard lifted his shot over the Multnomah goalkeeper and into the right side of the net from the left.

It would be Corwin giving the Eagles a 1-0 led  at the 7:52 mark as he took Luis Rangel's cross from the left and finished from 7 yards out on the right side. NU would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Multnomah cut the Eagles' lead in half at 58:21 as Noe Favila scored unassisted after beating the NU goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson who had come out of the box. Favila scored going to his left from the right side, 8 yards out.

Kieren Raney gave Northwest U a little cushion in the 64th minute as Jake Morse would take Elijah Gordon's free kick and give it to Raney for the score on the right side of the goal, 7 yards out.

Northwest U (8-2, 4-1 CCC) outshot Multnomah 26-11 as Daniel Christenson posted the win in goal with four saves for the game. Alex Ballard had five shots, 2 shots on goal with one score for NU.

Multnomah's (2-8, 0-6 CCC) Manny Guillermo made seven saves in goal for the Lions and Noe Favila led the team with six shots, three on goal.

"It's always nice to get a win when it isn't easy," stated Coach Gary McIntosh of the Eagles. "I like how we started out the game, we came out focused and ready to play and we scored early goals, but then we dropped off and the game was a struggle for us again for the next 60 minutes. We just need to learn to be disciplined and focused throughout an entire 90 minutes and that's something we're going to continue to work on at practice as we get ready for OIT."

Northwest U travels to Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore., next Friday and then on to Ashland for a match up with Southern Oregon.
