Carroll Defeats Shorthanded Eagles

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – In a game with some strange twists, Carroll College got the game winner in the 73rd minute to edge Northwest University, 3-2, for a Cascade Conference victory on the NU Athletic Field today. Northwest U played shorthanded with nine players late in the second half.
 
Carroll's Alessio Georgiades came up with the game winner scoring on a deflection off the Northwest U goalkeeper, Agazi Birkner at the 72:55 mark. Riley Prescott's free kick bounded off Birkner's hands as Georgiades was there to finish for the score.
 
Northwest U played the final 17 minutes of the game with midfielder, Branson Corwin in goal after starting goalkeeper, Agazi Birkner, was sent off with a red card for a foul outside the box. With starting goalkeeper Daniel Christenson out with a concussion and a third keeper also out with an injury, Corwin got the job in goal for the Eagles and came up with two saves.
 
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in at the 8:55 mark when Chris Iacolucci's cross in front of the goal was deflected in by a Carroll player for an own goal.
 
Sam Malouf tied the game in the 45th minute when he took a rebound off his own shot for the score from 6 yards out.
 
30 seconds later, it was Northwest U's Branson Corwin giving NU the lead back with his 16 yard free kick from the center into the upper right corner of the net to make it 2-1.
 
Carroll battled back to tie the score at 2-2  in the 62nd minute as Jacob Groh scored off Kyle Thomson's corner kick as he put his ball between the left post and the NU goalkeeper's hands.
 
Northwest U's (9-4, 5-4 CCC) Agazi Birkner came up with 8 saves in the game. Chris Iacolucci took four shots for NU with Carroll and the Eagles each taking 19 shots in the game.
 
Bernhardt Di Cino earned the win in goal for Carroll College (7-7, 5-4 CCC) with teammate Isaac Bostrom taking four shots for the Saints, two shots on goal.
 
It was a physical game with three yellow cards and two red cards issued to the teams and 24 total fouls.
