Corban Edges Eagles in CCC Battle

Chris Iacolucci scored NU's goal on a PK today
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Corban's Prince Kemar scored a goal in each half to help the Warriors edge the NU Eagles, 2-1, at Sparks Field on the campus of Willamette University. The game had been moved from Corban due to field conditions.
 
Kemar scored his first goal in the 18th minute as he headed Timur Zhividze's pass past NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson for the 1-0 lead. His second goal came at the 52:24 mark on another header after a throw in by teammate, Jacob Young.
 
The Eagles closed the gap to 2-1 when Chris Iacolucci scored on a penalty kick. Jordan Travis had his header saved by Corban keeper, Jordan Farr in the 77th minute and Kyle Zimmerman very came close to tying the score in the 86th minute with his shot hitting the crossbar.
 
It was a physical game with 27 fouls, six yellow cards and a red card issued in the contest. Corban outshot the Eagles 20-10 with a 10-3 edge on corner kicks.
 
Chris Iacolucci led Northwest U (10-7, 6-6 CCC) with 5 shots, 4 on goal and the one score. Jordan Travis took 3 shots with one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Daniel Christenson took the loss making 5 saves in goal for the Eagles.
 
Corban (15-2, 10-2 CCC) was led by Prince Kemar who was efficient with 2 shots, 2 shots on goal with 2 goals. Timur Zhividze had 4 shots, one shot on goal and an assist.

Said NU Coach Gary McIntosh, "I was disappointed in how the first half went for us. A defensive error cost us. We need to be more disciplined on set pieces. In the second half, I thought we came out and played with heart and passion and we found a way back into the game, but it was a little too late. We must get ready for tomorrow's game with Northwest Christian now and we need to come away with some points from this game."


The Eagles now move on to Eugene for a Saturday evening game with Northwest Christian at 5 p.m.
