NU Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Corban

NU's Winter Wirkala scoredin the 85th minute
Box Score SALEM, Ore. – A second half comeback by the NU Eagles came up just short as Corban held on for a 3-2 conference victory on Sparks Field this afternoon.
 
Trailing 2-0 fifty-seven seconds into the second half, the Eagles would get on the scoreboard in the 56th minute when Tiffany Taylor would head in a goal into the right side of the goal after a free kick and assist by teammate Tatyana Reveles.
 
Corban's Holly Moorman would put Corban up 3-1 at the 83:02 mark as she would score off a cross from Lexi McQueary.
 
A minute later, Winter Wirkkala would score an unassisted goal from 18 yards out to make it a 3-2 game. NU would keep pressing, but a shot from Whitney Weaver at 88:48 and another by Wirkkala in the 90th minute would both go wide as Corban would pull out the one goal win.
 
Northwest U (9-5-2, 5-3-2 CCC) took 10 shot 18 with s to the Warriors' with Winter Wirkkala leading the Eagles with 3 shots, 1 on goal with the score. Kat Sanchez made 5 saves in goal for the Eagles.
 
Corban's (11-6, 7-3 CCC) Sheyenne Brusven earned the win in goal and the shutout without registering a save for the contest as the Warrior defense held strong.  Holly Moorman score two goals for Corban.

"We came out flat and we gave up early goals in both halves which made it tough to come back from," said Bryan Chud, NU head coach. "We showed spirit and character to stay in the game, and I am confident we will respond positively tomorrow at Northwest Christian."
