Eagles Power Over Owls in Electric Three Set Match

Morgan Pilon had 22 assists for the match
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. - In a match that took 3 hours and 23 minutes to play, Northwest University defeated Oregon Tech in straight sets (25-7, 25-20, 25-14) after experiencing a power outage in Kirkland which lasted nearly two hours.

The first set was all Eagles as they capitalized on OIT errors and solid play at the net to break out to a 20-6 lead. The Owls would not be able to recover as three straight NU kills by Amanda Waterman, Hannah Hanson and Dakota Adams would end the set putting The Eagles up 1-0.

Oregon Tech would bounce back in set two and after Northwest U would take a 20-14 lead, a NU attack error and service ace by Samantha Szachara would close the gap to 21-18. After OIT's Whitney Webster would make it a 23-20 set, an Owl service error and kill by Amanda Waterman would give NU a 2-0 set lead.

With the third set at 15-10 and Northwest U leading, the power went out and would remain out for over an hour. Once power was restored and the teams warmed-up, set three resumed with the Eagles taking the final set 25-14 to end the match.

Amanda Waterman led Northwest U (13-4, 10-2 CCC) with 6 kills and 6 digs. Mattie Jo Johnson added 5 kills and Morgan Pilon ended the match with a match high 22 assists. Leia Roy had team honors in digs with 10.

Oregon Tech (8-10, 4-8 CCC) was led by Faryn Case's 5 kills. Bella Foss had a match high 13 digs with Tori Porter contributing 9 assists for the Owls.

Said Steven Bain, NU head coach, "We were really solid on first contacts in the first set, but Oregon Tech bounced back and put us on our heels with strong serving in set two. Needless to say, the power outage was tough on both teams but I liked our ability to focus on closing out the match when we took the court after the long delay. Still, we have room to grow and there are many small things that we need to control that will translate into significant progress. Our players know this and they are excited to get back in the gym and work on the details."

Northwest U now travels to the College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon next Friday and Saturday for their second meeting of the season.
