Eagles Earn Spot in CCC Final and NAIA Nationals

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The NU No. 5 seeded women defeated their second higher seeded opponent in a 1-0 shutout victory over the No. 2 seeded Southern Oregon Raiders in the CCC Soccer Championships semifinal game tonight. With the victory and a Carroll shootout victor over Rocky Mountain, the Eagles a wrapped a berth in the 2016 NAIA National Tournament. The game was played in a steady rain at Willamalane Park.

Rylee Rassier was the hero for the Eagles, finding the back of the net in the 18th minute after Jubilee Zevenbergen sent a cross along the goal line.
 
Southern pressured Northwest throughout the match, especially the second half, launching 14 shots as NU keeper, Lauren Hellum, tallied three saves to keep her team ahead and earn the shutout. The Eagle defense was solid holding the Raiders scoreless and limiting the CCC offensive player of the year, Megan McArthur to just one shot the entire game.
Since Carroll received the CCC's first automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament as the regular season champions, Northwest U will earn the second automatic qualifier either as the tournament champion or the runner up.

Said NU head coach, Bryan Chud, "We set up well tonight and stuck to our game plan. Our first half we played brilliantly and the second half we defended with heart and courage and gave everything we had. I am so incredibly proud of this team in every way--the entire squad. Tonight feels really good for us all!"

The CCC championship game is set for Monday, Nov. 7 at noon at Willamalane Park.
