Travis' Golden Goal Gives NU Win in Second Overtime

Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Freshman Jordan Travis scored the golden goal in the 107th minute, his second of the game, to give Northwest University a 2-1 double overtime victory over Whitman College in preseason play tonight.
 
In a frantic finish, Travis headed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal after taking a rebound off the crossbar for the game winner. Jose Valentine was credited for the assist. It was Travis' second goal of the game as he had put the Eagles ahead, 1-0, in the 35th minute with an assist from teammate Kyle Zimmerman.
 
Whitman evened the score at the 50:54 mark on Jordan Bachtold's unassisted goal.
 
Northwest outshot Whitman 22-17, 6-1 in the overtime periods. Daniel Christenson posts the win making seven saves for the night, including a key save in the second overtime which would have given Whitman the win. Chris Iacolucci had six shots for the Eagles, two shots on goal with Jordan Travis taking four shots, all four shots on goal. Travis now has four goals for the season.
 
Jack Filipponi had six saves for Whitman, playing 61:17 in goal for the Missionaries. Ben Freedman had four shots for Whitman, two shots on goal.
 
"I'm really proud of how the guys approached tonight's game and how they played the game," stated Gary McIntosh, NU head coach. "Everyone played for each other. It's a great way to finish off preseason and head into conference play."
 
Northwest U opens conference play next Friday, September 16, hosting Warner Pacific in Kirkland.
