Eagles Blank Warner Pacific in CCC Opener

Jacob Weaver scores in the 37th minute of the game
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University scored in each half for a 2-0 shutout victory over Warner Pacific this afternoon to open Cascade Conference play and improve to 5-1 for the season.

Kyle Zimmerman put the Eagles in the lead, 1-0, when he scored at the 23:57 mark of the first half in a frantic volley of shots in front of the Warner Pacific goal. Zimmerman took Kieren Raney's shot which deflected off the Knight's goalkeeper to score from 3 yards out.

Northwest U (5-1, 1-0 CCC) goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson earned the shutout with five saves, the 16th of his career, in goal with Warner Pacific taking 14 shots to Northwest U's 17 today.

The Eagles got the game clinching score in the 37th minute when Jacob Weaver scored from 12 yards out on the left side after taking a flip pass from teammate Jordan Travis.

Erdal Barkay had eight saves in goal for Warner Pacific (0-2, 0-1 CCC) in 90 minutes of play.

Said NU head coach, Gary McIntosh, "To start out conference play with a win is what we talked about before the game. I'm pleased with the way we knocked the ball around today and our defense worked well together and did a good job defensively limiting their quality looks at goal.  Daniel (Christenson) was stellar in goal and got his 16 shutout of his career and which ties him for the most shutouts at NU.  We let some chances slip away in the box and we need to be a bit more clinical with our finishing. Overall, it was a good day for us."

Northwest U remains at home and will host Eastern Oregon tomorrow at 1 p.m. while Warner Pacific will travel south to Olympia to play Evergreen in a CCC game.
