Eagles Hand EOU First Loss of the Season

Max Schellmann heads in NU's second goal for a 2-0 lead.
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University won their second straight CCC win with a 3-1 victory over Eastern Oregon on a windy day in Kirkland. NU improved to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in CCC play, while EOU lost their first contest to drop to 5-1-1, 0-1-1 in the conference.

It was EOU dominating the shot column 22 shot to NU's 11, but it was the Eagles putting in three scores for the win. Elijah Gordon scored the first goal for Northwest U on a free kick from about 25 yards out in the 12th minute putting his ball into the upper left net.

For Eastern Oregon it was a story of being unlucky as several solid shots on goal just missed the mark or were stopped by NU goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson. Micah Hill had a shot stopped by Christenson in the 21st minute and Elvis just missed on scoring attempts in the 32nd minute and barely missed on a goal at 37:20 as his shot came hard off the crossbar.

After leading 1-0 at the half, Northwest U scored two more second half goals off Max Schellmann's header off Trent Siedenburg's corner kick in the 61st minute and Chris Iacolucci's right footer from 6 yards out after taking a pass from Obi Esonu who had taken a crossing pass from Jose Valentine's. Iacolucci's goal came right in front of the goal mouth.

EOU would not give in and would keep pressing. Their pressure finally paid off with Elvis Pavon hard shot from 30 yards out which sailed over the outstretched hands of NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson and into the upper left at 78:26. The Mountaineers would take four more shots in the final 12 minutes, but none would find the mark.

Northwest U's Chris Iacolucci took three shots, all on goal, scoring once. Goalkeeper Daniel Christenson made seven saves for the game to earn the win.

Eastern Oregon was led by Elvis Pavon's eight shots, three on goal with one goal. EOU also held the edge in corner kicks, 5 to 3.

"We knew this game was going to be tough having played the day before," said Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "The guys wanted the win and left everything they had on the field. Elijah's (Gordon) free kick goal was excellent and that got us going but Eastern came back at us hard. At halftime, we talked about picking up the effort and quality of play and that is exactly what we did. The guys were determined to score more goals and we got two. The leadership of Max (Schellmann), Daniel (Christenson), and our other seniors was good and that helped us finish the game out. Six points in the opening of conference play is what we wanted and I am completely pleased with the guys  and their effort this weekend."
