Golden Goal Shuts Out Eagles in Overtime

No. 4 Miguel Viramontes take a shot on goal with Alex Ballard defending
Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Tino Pantaleon's golden goal 2:21 into overtime lifted the Evergreen State College a 1-0 shutout victory over Northwest University this afternoon in CCC play. Pantaleon's goal came from the right side, 8 yards out on a pass from teammate Miguel Viramontes.

In a game dominated by Evergreen offensively as they outshot the home team Eagles 30-14 with numerous near misses including a penalty kick at the 61:39 mark that was saved by NU goalkeeper Daniel Christenson. Christenson was forced to make 10 saves in goal today as the Geoducks had 11 shots on goal.

The Evergreen defense limited Northwest U to eight shots in the first half and 6 in the second, 5 total shots on goal which were saved by Evergreen's (2-0-2, 1-0-2 CCC) goalkeeper Thomas Clark who earned the shutout.

Northwest U's (6-2, 2-1 CCC) Christenson takes the loss in goal for the Eagles with Alex Ballard leading the team with three shots, all on goal.

Miguel Viramontes had near misses in the game taking 10 shots, 3 shots on goal with an assist on the game winner. Josiah Pacheco took 4 shots, 2 shots on goal for the victorious Geoducks.

"It was a disappointing loss today as we feel like we let one slip away," commented NU head coach, Gary McIntosh. We know we must be better at all aspects of the game and the focus now is on our next game and we will work this week to continue to improve on all areas of our play."

Northwest U will remain at home next week hosting CCC opponents Walla Walla and Multnomah on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 on the NU Athletic Field.
