Pacific Edges Eagles on First Half Goal

Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A single goal in the 29th minute was all Pacific University needed to defeat Northwest University, 1-0, in a preseason game this afternoon. Northwest U drops to 2-1 for the season.

Breezy Brookbank scored an unassisted goal with a far post volley from 13 yards out for the game winner at the 28:25 mark. Northwest U outshot the Boxers 11-10, but could not find the equalizer as Pacific's defense stiffened and gave up just four shots on goal for the game. Kailey Hifumi made four saves in goal for Pacific earning the shutout.

Northwest U's Whitney Weaver led the Eagles with four shots, one shot on goal while Lauren Hellum gave up the single goal in 90 minutes making one save. NU limited Pacific to just two shots on goal including the game winner.

"Today, we battled hard but we couldn't execute," said NU head coach Bryan Chud. "We just weren't good enough on the day. We played much better the second half when we switched the formation, but we still expect more and look forward to getting a chance to redeem ourselves."

NU will play a scrimmage against Pacific Lutheran on Monday and then travel to Whitman College with the men's team for a doubleheader in Walla Walla with Whitman College on Sept. 9.
